CJ Biomaterials has partnered with Riman Korea to develop environmentally friendly packaging for Riman's Incellderm premium skincare products. This collaboration combines CJ Biomaterials' patented polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) technology with polylactic acid (PLA) to create packaging that reduces the use of fossil fuel-based materials. The PLA-PHA composite will be used for Incellderm's Active Cream EX, Dermatology First Package Booster EX, and Vieton Oil Mist, products that collectively account for over 5.4 million units in annual sales.
The companies plan to expand the use of CJ Biomaterials' PHA technology across a wider range of products and are exploring the development of 100% PHA-based solutions for injection molding applications. CJ Biomaterials is the exclusive producer of amorphous PHA globally, offering benefits such as increased bio-based content, accelerated biodegradation, and improved functional properties in materials. This partnership reflects a commitment to reducing plastic waste and reliance on petroleum-based technology. Both companies aim to demonstrate the possibilities of sustainable biopolymers in packaging that prioritizes planet-friendly solutions without compromising safety and aesthetics. CJ Biomaterials' operating capacity is expanding, with plans for a mega-plant likely to be built in the United States.
